The Manager of Mechanical Design is responsible for managing the Design Engineering team supporting Triumph’s hydraulic Actuation and Pump & Motor product groups and their customers in the aerospace industry. The Mechanical Design Manager is ultimately responsible for the quality and timeliness of the design documentation produced by the Engineering group. 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Design Group technical discipline. This includes training and professional development of the Design Group personnel, uniformity of design/drafting documentation, digital/CAD tool development and drawing standards development/maintenance.
  • Manages Design Group workload and ensures timely completion of New Product Development (NPD) projects and Sustaining Engineering design tasks.
  • As a key member of the engineering management team, leads gated NPD process, responsible for establishing design review checklists and phase exit criteria.
  • Works with Engineering Managers to ensure product designs are completed within project schedule and cost constraints by coordinating the efforts of Design Group personnel.
  • Responsible for leadership of the Product Design and Configuration Control personnel and processes.
  • Manages all elements of Triumph’s Configuration Management system, including document release, engineering changes, configuration status accounting, document/drawing numbering system and configuration control of source controlled supplier designs.
  • Works with the IT Group to upgrade and maintain PLM software and establish automation tools to improve efficiency of engineering document flow.
  • Manages compliance to customer configuration control requirements and works with customers to gain design change approval authority on Triumph-proprietary designs.
  • Ensures all customer specifications and standards in use by the engineering department are current.
  • Responsible for administration aspects, such as annual performance reviews, attendance, PTO management, and other personnel related duties.
  • Contributes to team effort by maintaining a positive outlook.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure customer needs are met.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 10 years of experience in aerospace or defense-related mechanical design and development.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing or engineering leadership position
- Ability to develop and motivate a high-involvement team through commitment to meeting customer and organization demands
- Knowledge of manufacturing test and safety policies and regulations
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to challenge preconceived ideas
- Analytical skills required to solve complex issues.
