Junior Payroll and Benefits Coordinator – Contract 12 months
Flexible & Part Time Hours Available
$35,000 a year
Are you interested in learning a new systems, effectively creating time and attendance reports for 200 employees (approximately a team of150 hourly and 50 salary), are you knowledgeable in the areas of shift premiums, overtime calculations, vacation calculation, review of clock in and clock out times, as well as entering employee details into Ceridian?! Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Payroll and Benefit Coordinator for a 12 month contract who will be reporting to the Director of Human Resources. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills:

  • Excellent Excel Knowledge. Able to complete formulas over multiple tabs, pivot tables, vlookups, filters, and analyze the data for errors and/or omissions. 
  • Enjoys the full payroll cycle. Has experience in analyzing and entering time and attendance details into an excel spreadsheet in preparation to upload to Ceridian. 
  • Understands hourly pay and the challenges an automated time keeping system can present. 
  • Understands how to monitor and calculate shift premiums, lead hand premiums, regular hours/overtime/vacation days in one week. 
  • Detailed data entry skills to correctly enter vacation and other time off requests for employees. 
  • Experience with group benefit enrolments, including addition of family members and updates within the benefit provider’s web portal. 
  • Experience with balancing RSP payroll contributions and the submission to a Financial Institution. Creating the report and uploading of the information through a secure portal. 
  • Experience trouble shooting employee questions and concerns regarding benefit coverage. 
  • Can work independently, adhere to deadlines, provide great customer service and a friendly demeanour to all employees.
  • Work closely with the offsite Payroll Department and Team that is responsible for and finalizes the payroll run.

Job Description

  • Responsible for processing biweekly payroll of 200+ hourly and salary employees with various incentives. Preparation of the data to be uploaded to Ceridian payroll system.
  • Input new and revised employee information in to Ceridian
  • Issue ROEs and respond to Service Canada inquiries
  • Submission of approved Employee Change Forms and New Hire Information to our Corporate office in preparation for biweekly pay run.
  • Preparation of various payroll reports. These reports include WSIB premium calculations, benefit premium payments, vacation reports, overtime reports, Finance reports by Employee/department/labour costs, etc. All reports are completed by downloading information and completing the analysis in Excel. 
  • Track and Administer vacation for employees – data entry into time keeping program and updating excel tracker.
  • Respond to in-person requests from employees, welcome an open-door-no-appointment-required-culture. (yes, even on payroll submission day)
  • While the primary responsibility for this position is preparation of the time and attendance for payroll processing, the successful candidate will provide Human Resources support as required in the areas of:
  • HRIS data entry, setting up of new employee files, filing in general, helping out other departments, back up for reception, etc.
  • Assist in recruiting process as required. Setting up interviews, corresponding with candidates, completion of offer letters, etc.
  • Involvement in various employee programs including employee lunches, company BBQs, setting up for All Employee Meetings, etc.
  • Administrative support as required alongside the other members of the team. There is always a project – we believe in continuous improvements, being proactive and working together.

 

Qualifications

Job Skills and Requirements
- A post-secondary diploma in a related field is an asset
- Minimum 3 years of relevant payroll experience with a good understanding of government/legislative payroll regulations and Employment Standards
- Experience with payroll in Ontario, Canada
- Experience in an office environment utilizing Microsoft Office is essential as is a basic understanding of Time and Attendance systems
- Detail oriented, extremely accurate and deadline driven
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and quickly resolve sensitive payroll matters is critical.
- Ability to work extra hours during payroll submission day if required (every other Monday) to ensure all payroll timelines are met. 
This is a contract position and we can accommodate flexible and/or part time hours. The initial contract will be 12 months with option for renewal.
