    Position Description:

    Purchasing clerk / buyer

    This position is primarily responsible for supplier management for subcontract processing suppliers, administration of Purchase Orders and achieving production schedules. Also, involved in prequalification of suppliers, commercial evaluation, and communication with bidders, recommendations, and purchase award, as well as coordinating, engaging and supporting other procurement disciplines.

    Responsibilities

    • Issue POs for direct material, subcontract processing services, hardware, consumables and packaging materials to meet the open buy requirements in accordance with internal work instructions.
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of POs and their attachments and obtain proper approval.
    • Ensure that all products and process specifications are included in ERP system.
    • Manage and maintain orders to meet internal volume and production needs.
    • Obtain price quotations from suppliers, compare, negotiate if need be, and prepare purchase orders as needed.
    • Follow up with suppliers to resolve supply shortages, missed deliveries, order errors and notify planning of the issues in timely basis.
    • Maintain and update  pricing/sourcing data in the ERP system for reference and reporting purposes
    • Assist in dispositioning supplier caused defective materials or non-compliant parts through RMA and NCR procedures and AS9100 standards
    • Ensure materials are expedited, as required, to production floor
    • Maintain records of supplier performance for discussions with suppliers
    • Develop, maintain and build supplier relationships
    • Identify and implement cost savings through spend analysis, supplier negotiations, business resourcing, and other purchasing methods
    • Perform supplier plant visits and provide trip reports
    • Identify and implement continuous improvement activities for current processes.
    • Comply with the company’s purchasing policies and procedures, and legal/ethical obligations.
    • Update and revise purchasing procedures and work instructions when necessary.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:
    - University Degree or College Diploma in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or related field preferred
    - PMAC or other Supply Chain continuous learning courses preferred
     
    EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
    - Minimum of 5 years of direct procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
    - Knowledge of best purchasing practices, business methods, markets, and cost saving techniques
    - Knowledge of Contracts and contract law
    - Exposure to workplace safety requirements (WHMIS, WSIB requirements and Risk Assessment)
    - Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Continuous Improvement project experience
    - Knowledge of NAFTA, Customs and Export Documentation and INCO terms
    - Experience in ERP/MRP system
     
    SKILLS & ABILITIES:
    - Effective detail-oriented negotiator with superior analytical/problem solving and decision making skills
    - Capable of Negotiating on principle and from position
    - Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
    - Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team
    - Excellent organization skills with an ability to multi-task and prioritize.
    - Proficient with relevant computer applications including MS Project, MS Excel, Microsoft, Syteline (Infor) or similar ERP systems
